My Company and I - My Field of Work

In the following module you will learn how to present yourself and the company you work for. 

In a first step you will aquire vocabulary and communicative ways to talk about your company. 

In a second step you will create a presentation about your own company 

This can be done in three ways:

  1. You can either work out a role play with a partner, wherein you introduce yourself and exchange information in a fluent dialogue or
  2. You can give a presentation about your company

All of you will create

  • either a flyer or information brochure about your company and your field of work 
  • or a powerpoint presentation about your company and your specific field of work

The First Day

You are going to listen to the converstations Ms. Schwartz has on her first day at a new company:


Tasks

  •  Listen carefully to what the different people are saying.
  •   Note down phrases you can use when introducing yourself.

Getting to know each other

It’s VCF’s 25th company anniversary (Firmenjubiläum). The company has invited business partners from all over Europe to a party. Choose a role card and start a conversation with one of the guests. Remember that you and your partner have not met before.

Tasks

1.       Introduce yourself and your company.

2.       Ask your partner questions about his job and his company.

3.       Exchange information about your company and its business with VCF.

Advertising your company

Imagine the following Situation:

 

Your boss realized that your English is quite good. Since he wants to give the company an international twist and be more modern, he wants you to create either

 

  • a radio commercial advertising the company
  • a working log, where you document your workday to post on the company's website
  • an informative yet entertaining report on the working enviroment of the company, wherein you describe the positive atmosphere and the cooperative socializing of the employees

1. Getting to know each other

To get to know somebody and learn about his / her culture and country. It's best to start with the things people have in common:

 

Thus: Take the GLOBINGO sheet and find somebody of the other group for each of the items. 

 

To do so:

 

You need to walk around

Say 'Hi' to somebody and ask him or her about the item

 

You should use the item to strike up a conversation and learn about each other!

 

Later you will be asked to report about your findings

2. Learn about German education and work in general

 

Now that the ice is broken. You will get together in international groups. 

 

The task is to 

 

Interview each other about life, work, and education in Germany and France. 

 

to do so you

  1. Make notes about what topics you may include: hobbies, future job, your typical school day, where you spent your free time, what is typically French/German, you feel about the two countries working together, how your vocational training is organized, your and many more.... 
  2. You prepare a script of questions and answers. 
  3. You take an iPad and record your interview in a video. 

We are going to watch the videos at the end of the lesson and see what we can from them about each other. 

 

For the Interview:

 

  • introduce yourself or each other briefly
  • everybody has to say something
  • try to make it look natural 
  • get into a conversation
  • HAVE FUN!
